For those women who fear the worst, your worst nightmare could in fact be diabetes. With all the new technology that is being developed around the world, diabetes is still an incurable disease. It can take some of your ambitions in life and it can diminish your chances of ever having children.

No, it will not make you sterile; however, there are some people who are simply forbidden to have children because of the complications that can arise in the delivery room and throughout the pregnancy. As for the pregnancy complications, there are many. You will find that the pregnancy will demand more insulin for the body to function normally. In fact, you could end up developing insulin resistance. You will find that if you care able to control your diabetes than you may not have an issue when becoming a mother.

Also, you will want to plan all your pregnancies, because there are some children who could end up having inherited malformations and the baby could end up with diabetes as well. However, there are many women who receive preconception care and still have a five percent chance of having a baby born with some complications. If you do not receiver the proper pre-conception care your baby has a ten percent chance of having complications. Although the chances are slim, a new mother knows that even a small chance could harm the child and those are statistics that most mother’s can’t bare.

Then there are the most server pregnancy complications. Women who have diabetes have a five percent chance of their baby dying within it’s first month. The normal rate for woman is 1. 5% and that is for women who do not have the disorder. Although your chances are low, you will still need to plan your pregnancies so that these types of complications do not happen.

Macroosomia is another risk that you and the baby may have when it comes to being diabetic. This is where the baby will need to be taken by c-section and they are unable to go through natural birth.

Toxemia and hydramnios is another risk. Toxemia is where you will have protein in the urine and there will be headaches and visual disorders, but hydramnios means you begin to retain fluid throughout the body.

There are tons more of complications that you could run into and you’ll need to talk to your doctor about the risks that you will be putting yourself and the baby at if you were to get pregnant.
